Manley, Michael (Norman)
(10 dic. 1923, St. Andrew, Jamaica–6 mar.1997, Kingston).

Líder político jamaicano. Escultor e hijo de un primer ministro de Jamaica, fue líder del Partido Nacional del Pueblo y de la Unión nacional de trabajadores antes de convertirse en primer ministro en 1972. Su gobierno de izquierda hizo grandes avances en vivienda, educación y salud; no obstante, una fuerte alza de los precios del petróleo precipitó una crisis económica. Gran parte de la clase media abandonó el país, el desempleo llegó al 30% y el período previo a las elecciones de 1980, en las cuales fue derrotado, se vio enturbiado por la violencia. Fue reelegido en 1989, esta vez como un moderado; renunció en 1992 por razones de salud.
